The global aviation forum held in Marrakech this week was a chance for Morocco to advance its air transport diplomacy with partners in Europe,Africa and Asia,with a focus on strengthening logistics,aviation and sustainability cooperation.
The Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS 2026),organized April 14 to 16,provided a platform for Moroccan transport minister Abdessamad Kayouh to broaden Morocco’s international engagement after consolidating logistics ties with African partners.
Meetings were held with officials and representatives from Europe,Asia,Turkey,Yemen and Costa-Rica.
Discussions with Turkey focused on enhancing air connectivity and road transport cooperation. During talks with Turkish Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Enver İskurt,the two sides highlighted the importance of improved air links,citing the strategic geographic positions of both countries as hubs connecting multiple regions.
Morocco also sought to advance its aviation partnership with the European Union. In talks with Eddy Liégeois,head of aviation policy at the European Commission,Kayouh outlined Morocco’s airport expansion plans and programs to modernize the national fleet in line with international standards.
The minister said the projects are designed to support rising passenger demand and major international events scheduled to be hosted by Morocco in coming years,including the World Cup.
Beyond infrastructure investment,discussions with the European Union centred on the decarbonization of air transport. The two sides explored opportunities for developing sustainable aviation fuel production in Morocco,a step officials say could help aviation meet global climate targets while supporting local industrial development.
