UN Pays Tribute to Morocco’s Peacekeepers for their Service & Sacrifice

United Nations is honouring peacekeepers from Morocco for their service and sacrifice by dedicating starting 1st April a week-long celebration

highlighting the contributions made by the Moroccan Blue Helmets for the security and stability of the most vulnerable people on earth.

Morocco is the nineth largest contributor of peacekeepers to the United Nations with more than 1,300 – including 74 women – now serving in four missions.

They carry out patrols to protect civilians,conduct medical outreach to the local population,and support schools and orphanages. Morocco joined UN peacekeeping in 1960.

Today,Moroccan peacekeepers serve in the Central African Republic,the Democratic Republic of Congo,and South Sudan. A total of 65 Moroccan peacekeepers have lost their lives while serving under the UN flag.

The UN says it is grateful to Morocco for the service and sacrifice of its peacekeepers in hot spots around the world.
