new map shows tube lines where other passengers are about to get even more annoying

New 4G and 5G mobile coverage is available on certain Tube lines,with more due soon

For some it’s a sign we’ve entered the 21st century,for others it’s going to make London travel more annoying.

The Tube now has 4G and 5G mobile coverage in more stations and tunnels,with further sections due to go live by the end of the summer.

The roll-out by TfL involves major networks like Vodafone and EE. Among the stations to get coverage are:

Euston Square

Cannon Street

Battersea Power Station

Over the next few months these stations will go live:

Kings Cross St Pancras

Gloucester Road

Warwick Avenue

Vauxhall

It is hoped that most of the Northern and Metropolitan lines will have coverage by the end of the summer.

Three UK,EE,Vodafone and Virgin Media O2 are taking part in the rollout,while it’s expected there will be high-speed mobile coverage across the whole Tube,DLR and Elizabeth line network by the end of the year.

They also hope to bring it in for the Windrush line between Highbury & Islington and New Cross.

Malik Fraz Ahmad frequently travels between Wimbledon and Holborn most days loves the mobile phone coverage.

He told Metro: ‘I’m studying for solicitor exams at the moment so I usually use it [mobile network] to do some MCQs or scroll through Ebooks.

‘I remember streaming the Chelsea game recently on my phone and being impressed at how the signal was uninterrupted on a journey from East London to Wimbledon.’

Isabel Coman from TfL,said: ‘It’s great to see further progress in our goal to introduce high-speed mobile coverage across our Tube network.

‘The latest stations and tunnels going live means that we are on a clear path towards having 4G and 5G mobile coverage across the whole network by the end of 2026.

‘Engineers are working hard overnight during the limited engineering hours to deliver this programme and we hope that customers enjoy benefitting from being able to stay in contact with friends and family,shop online and stay on top of the latest news and sports results while travelling across London.’

Nick Hudson,from Boldyn Networks,said: ‘Our long-term partnership with TfL to extend reliable 4G and 5G mobile coverage across the London Underground is grounded in improving everyday journeys for millions of people.

‘A project of this scale demands extraordinary engineering effort and close-knit collaboration with TfL,with work often carried out overnight in one of the world’s most complex transport networks.

‘We’re immensely proud of what’s been achieved so far,and each section completed brings us closer to our goal of creating a more connected London for those who visit the city and those who call it home.’

In 2021,London mayor Sadiq Khan said the Underground would have mobile coverage throughout by 2024.
