Chinese group Tinci Materials Technology willis preparing to set up a factory in Jorf Lasfar dedicated to the production of electrolytes and raw materials for electric batteries. This industrial project, with an estimated investment of $280 million (nearly 2.8 billion dirhams),will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 tons of finished products for the global battery market, further integrating Morocco into the global clean energy value chain.

The related agreement was signed on Wednesday,June 11,2025,by the Chinese company and Moroccan authorities.

The project requiring an investment of $280 million will receive support from the Moroccan state, notably through incentive schemes and subsidies tied to the achievement of specific targets.

The factory will be located in the industrial zone of Jorf Lasfar,in El Jadida, and will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 tons of electrolytes,as well as strategic materials such as lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF₆),a key component of lithium-ion batteries.

With this investment, the Chinese group aims to capitalize on Morocco’s strategic positioning and ambition to become a key player in the production of components for electric vehicle batteries.

In a note to its shareholders announcing the deal, the company described it as “structural cooperation” with the Moroccan authorities. The decision to choose Morocco for the project was driven by the country’s political stability,trade-friendly environment, access to phosphate resources, and proximity to Europe, the company said.

Founded in 2000,Tinci controls over 40% of the global market for battery electrolytes. Electrolytes enable the flow of electrical current within the battery. Since 2010,Tinci has focused heavily on supplying high-purity materials for electrochemical energy storage. The company is particularly involved in the production of LiPF₆ and the recycling of LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries.
