Two people killed when their car went over the edge of a cliff on the Isle of Wight at the weekend were a bus driver and his frail wife, neighbours have said.

The couple, named locally as John and Lynne King, died when their silver Ford Mondeo plunged 300ft from atop the rock face close to the Needles late on Friday. Their two Dachshund dogs were also in the car with them.

The couple’s family said in a statement released through police: ‘We are all devastated and numb from the loss, and would respect some privacy at this time.’

Neighbours said John was a bus driver who knew the area and its roads ‘like the back of his hand’ and ‘doted on his wife’,who was described as ‘really, really frail’.
