The Grand Stade de Fès,in one of Morocco’s ancient capitals,is ready to shine on the continental stage. With its grand reopening scheduled for June 6,2025,just in time for a friendly between Morocco’s Atlas Lions and Tunisia,the stadium now symbolizes Morocco’s bold ambitions for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Thirteen weeks of renovation works were enough to fully revamp the stadium,which will also host World Cup games in 2030.
The overhaul was achieved at a cost of nearly 600 million dirhams. The upgrades included a new pitch layout,track removal to improve visibility and fan engagement,500 surveillance cameras and fully renovated locker rooms and press area.
With 35,468 seat capacity,the stadium plans to expand to 55,000 to meet FIFA standards for the World Cup.
Besides Fez,Morocco has identified 9 stadiums as hosts of the African tournament in the cities of Rabat,Tangier,Casablanca,Fez,Marrakech,and Agadir.
An ongoing upgrade of nine stadiums will be completed between March and August this year.
Benslimane stadium,near Casablanca,will be ready in December 2027,ahead of the 2030 World Cup,the Moroccan government said in a statement following a meeting chaired by the head of the government.
Benslimane,will be home to the crown jewel of Moroccan stadiums. Worth 500 million dollars,the landmark will be the biggest football venue in the World with 115,000 seats. Authorities expect it to be ready before the end of 2027.
