Gambia’s President Adama Barrow has sent a written message to King Mohammed VI. The message was handed over by Gambia’s foreign minister Mamadou Tangara to his Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita during a meeting held Tuesday in Rabat.

In a press statement,Mr. Tangara stressed the importance of holding regular consultations between the two countries on topics of common interest,in particular within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as Gambia holds the rotating presidency of this Organization.

He lauded the actions and efforts engaged by King Mohammed VI,chairman of Al-Qods Committee, for the Palestinian cause and for consolidation of the Moroccan-Gambian relations.

Gambia’s top diplomat has also reiterated his country’s recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara and hailed the recent UK support for the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco for the Sahara under its sovereignty.

For UK,permanent member of the UN Security Council, the Moroccan proposed autonomy plan is the “most credible, viable and pragmatic” basis to achieving a “lasting solution” for the decades-long regional conflict. London joins its major western allies,Washington,Paris,Madrid,Berlin… in backing Morocco’s territorial integrity.

The British endorsement of the Moroccan plan is a clear recognition of Rabat’s sovereignty over the territory. It comes after Morocco has gained growing international support in recent years.
