Burglars attempt to break in to London auction house filled with jewellery and art

Burglars attempted to break into one of central London’s most upmarket auction houses that flogs jewellery and art,the police told Metro.

The suspected aggravated burglary at Phillips on Berkeley Square,Mayfair,happened in the early hours this morning.

Photographs show one of the gallery’s glass doors shattered and lying on the pavement,with a blue Mercedes parked just outside.

The vehicle has visible dents,with one of the headlights damaged.

Police have been unable to confirm if anything was stolen.

A witness said they saw the gallery had been taped off,with forensics teams on the scene.

The force told Metro: ‘Officers are investigating a suspected aggravated burglary at a commercial property in Berkeley Square,Mayfair at 4.14am on Monday.

‘A crime scene remains in place while initial enquiries are conducted.’

They added: ‘No arrests have been made at this stage.’

An aggravated burglary is a burglary that involves a weapon,damage,vandalism or violence.

Phillips has been approached for comment.
