Morocco has foiled the Algerian regime’s attempt of transferring the Headquarters of the Secretariat of the Arab Parliamentary Union from Damascus to Algiers.

During the 38th meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Union held lately in Algeria, the Moroccan delegation, headed by first deputy speaker of the House of Representatives Mohamed Sabbari, said the Algerian move, made in the absence of Syria’s representative, violates the rules of joint Arab action and the sovereignty of an Arab member state.

The Algerian delegate cooked up the relocation scheme in connivance with the delegates of two other countries without consulting other participating members. They tabled their Machiavellian project in vague terms in the final declaration hoping to get approval, but Moroccan MP Sabbari exposed the Algerian plot, opposing any decision on Syria in the absence of the representative of this Arab country.

He also affirmed that the Arab Parliamentary Union is a platform of dialogue and unification of visions, not a political tool for exclusion, stressing the importance of preserving Arab unity, respecting legitimacy, collective action, and rejecting political maneuvers undermining Arab institutions and sowing divisions.

The Moroccan delegation also reiterated the Kingdom’s firm position on the Palestinian issue, condemning the Israeli aggression and highlighting the continuous efforts made by King Mohammed VI,chairman of Al-Quds Committee, for the Palestinian cause.
