Kenya has joined the long list of countries supporting the realistic autonomy plan offered by Morocco for the Sahara under its sovereignty as the ONLY viable solution to the Sahara regional conflict.
The supportive stand of Nairobi comes in a joint statement published Monday in Rabat following the meeting held by Kenya’s Prime Minister & Minister of Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
Kenya “deems the autonomy plan as the only viable approach for the resolution of the Sahara issue and intends to cooperate with States sharing the same vision to promote its implementation”,said the joint statement.
Kenya “welcomes the growing international consensus and the dynamic spearheaded by HM King Mohammed VI in favor of the autonomy plan presented by Morocco as the only credible and realistic solution to resolve the Sahara dispute,” added the statement.
The two senior ministers insisted on exclusive role of the UN in handling the Sahara issue and reaffirmed support for the UN Security Council resolutions,in particular resolution 2756 (2024).
Morocco thanks Kenya’s recognition of Morocco’s continued cooperation with UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to advance the political process on the basis of the relevant Security Council resolutions.
The Kenyan minister also commended the royal leadership and initiatives, including the initiative offering Atlantic access to Sahel countries and the initiative gathering African Atlantic States, seeking to transform geostrategic landscape.
