North Africa PostMarch 26,2025 11:38 am

Morocco and Spain have created the best climate ever for the development of their bilateral ties,Spanish foreign minister José Manuel Albares said.

The two countries are reaping the benefits of the momentum launched by the joint declaration of 2022,signed by King Mohammed VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez,Albares recalled at the Spanish Senate.

The declaration ushered “the best climate of cooperation and collaboration ever achieved in the history of relations between the two countries,” he said.

The closer ties are reflected in the growing trade, which hit 25 billion euros last year,he said.

Over 15,000 Spanish firms export goods to Morocco, while 660 enterprises have invested in the North African Kingdom,he said.

The two countries, together with Portugal, have also teamed up to organize the 2030 World Cup,in a sign of their willingness to further enhance their friendly and neighborly ties,Albares recalled.

Spain opened a new page in ties with Morocco in 2022,following a letter from Sanchez to the King announcing Madrid’s support for Morocco’s autonomy plan as “the basis” to resolve the Sahara issue.

Albares also cited Morocco’s cooperation on other vital issues, such as countering illegal migration, which could be “unmanageable” without Morocco’s help.
