A British tourist who went missing on Australia’s Gold Coast has been found dead.

Lewis Jack, from Glasgow, was reported missing from Surfers Paradise,a seaside resort in Queensland,on Saturday night.

But last night evening, his body was found in the water near the Isle of Capri.

It is believed that he may have fallen into the water and drowned,so his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Lewis’s grieving grandmother,Margaret Mooney, described her grandson as ‘beautiful’ and added ‘RIP Lewis Jack, forever 22. Love you loads’ in a social media post.

Friend Gemma Robertson said: ‘I can’t believe that am actually posting this. Lewis can’t believe you’re gone, the worst news, you’ll never be forgotten. Fly high.’

Fiona Prude wrote: ‘My heart breaks for all Lewis’s family. I wish we could wrap you all in our arms, more so I wish we could have gotten Lewis safely back to you.’

It’s thought Lewis had been in Cavill Avenue, the heart of nightlife in the Gold Coast, before ordering an Uber back to his accommodation on Chevron Island.

But he never made it back, and was last seen walking on Gibraltar Drive, which runs alongside the Nerang River.

A GoFundMe page to help cover funeral costs and repatriate Lewis’s body has been set up and its already raised about £3,600 of its £12,000 goal.

It was organised by Toni-Lee Donnelly,on behalf of the Jack family, who said: ‘Lewis was one of the kindest souls – his smile could light up any room, and his warmth and humour touched everyone he met.

‘He is deeply loved and will be missed beyond words by all who knew him.

‘This GoFundMe has been set up to help bring Lewis home to Scotland and support his family with the funeral costs.

‘Every donation,no matter the size, means the world to us and will go directly toward repatriation and funeral arrangements.

‘From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support during this incredibly difficult time.’
