Algeria costs annually France over 9 billion Euros, which represent more than the budget of the French ministry of agriculture and three times the budget of the French Overseas Territories.
These outrageous figures have been disclosed by French deputy Sarah Knafo saying “the French taxpayers pay annually over €9 billion to Algeria,an oil-gas producer country, which is becoming a heavy burden and a serious political liability for Paris.”
“In just one year,Algeria costs us €136 million in public development assistance,€100 million in unpaid medical bills,€880 million in pension frauds,€2 billion in VAT & income loss,€1.6 billion in social benefits and € 1.5 billion to social housing” provided to low-income Algerian families, said Ms. Sarah Knafo.
France also spends annually €380 million on Algerian students in university campuses,€260 million on illegal Algerian migrants and €2.2 billion on the costs of crimes and offenses committed by Algerian nationals, said the French MP & and Member of European Parliament.
Several French politicians and MPs have urged their government to impose tough economic and diplomatic sanctions against the Algerian regime until this country takes back its unwanted nationals in France. Some have even called for adopting the U.S hard-line strategy in dealing with illegal migrants.
In a resolution adopted lately by the European Parliament, the overwhelming majority of MEPs affirmed that any future disbursements of EU funds to Algeria will depend on freedom of expression and democratic progress in this country, which risks serious sanctions if it continues escalating repression targeting human rights militants, political opponents, journalists, and intellectuals.
“The Algerian authorities must review all repressive laws restricting freedoms and the judiciary’s independence,in order to protect the freedom of the press”,said the MEPs.
They also denounced the human rights violations in Algeria and affirmed that a renewal of the EU-Algeria Partnership Priorities hinges on Algeria’s continued and substantial progress on respect for the rule of law.
