Speaker of the French Senate Gérard Larcher will pay a four-day visit to Morocco starting Feb.23 at the invitation of Moroccan peer Mohamed Ould Errachid.
During the trip, the French politician will visit Rabat and Laayoune, capital of the Moroccan Sahara, where he will meet local officials, notables, and elected officials of the region.
According to press reports,Larcher and his accompanying delegation will be briefed on the city’s inclusive socioeconomic development projects and visit major local industrial, commercial, educational, medical and sports facilities in addition to Laayoune’s modern infrastructures.
The announcement of this visit is making Algerian rulers extremely nervous amid changing geopolitical realities with the rise of Morocco’s economic and military power and the erosion of the Algerian influence in the region.
