Slovenia announced the upcoming opening in June this year of an Embassy in Rabat,marking a milestone in the two countries’ bilateral ties.
Morocco also agreed to open an embassy in Ljubljana in an announcement made during the visit Morocco’s foreign minister Nasser Bourita paid to Slovenia where he met Friday deputy prime minister and foreign minister Tanja Fajon.
During the visit,Slovenia reiterated its position in support of the autonomy plan as a basis for settling the Sahara conflict.
The two ministers underscored the potential for bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade and renewable energies as well as logistics,farming,and the car industry.
In this connection,the two ministers agreed on the importance of holding economic forums to encourage exchanges between economic actors of the two countries. They welcomed the interest in strengthening cooperation between the Port of Koper and all Moroccan ports,particularly with the Port of Tanger-Med.
They also called for stepping up academic cooperation between the two Euro-Mediterranean universities EMUNI in Piran,and the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fès in the fields of science,research,innovation,and the blue economy,to create opportunities for youth empowerment for the benefit of the entire Mediterranean region.
They reaffirmed their intention to contribute to strengthening the strategic partnership between the European Union (EU) and the Kingdom of Morocco. In this regard,the two ministers emphasized the importance of establishing Morocco-EU cooperation on sound and solid foundations.
Bourita’s visit to Ljubljana reflects the excellence of relations between Morocco and Slovenia,based on mutual respect,reciprocal trust,ongoing consultation,and cooperation.
Bourita,who congratulated Fajon following Slovenia’s accession to the United Nations Security Council for the year 2024-2025,expressed his appreciation for the inclusive approach that Slovenia brings to the work of the Security Council and the relevant priorities of its mandate within this UN body in favor of maintaining international peace and security.
The two parties also highlighted the positive and constructive role that Morocco and Slovenia play in maintaining stability,security,and peace in their respective regions and their commitment to the universal fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter,and the necessity of peaceful conflict resolution in full respect of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of states.
During his visit to Ljubljana,Bourita was received by the President of the Republic of Slovenia,Nataša Pirc Musar. He also met with the President of the National Assembly of Slovenia,Urška Klakočar Zupančič,and the Slovenian Prime Minister,Robert Golob.
