King Mohammed VI,Commander of the Faithful,has joined the world leaders in paying tribute to the life and legacy of Pope Francis who died at age 88 on the morning of Easter Monday.
In a message sent to Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re,the Dean of the College of Cardinals,the Monarch offered his sincere condolences to the Christians around the world,and especially the Roman Catholic Church.
“The world has lost an eminent religious figure,who dedicated his life to serving lofty human ideals and common values rooted in faith,freedom,peace,love and solidarity among different peoples”,said the King .
The late Pope called consistently for protecting and preserving the environment,the home of all mankind. “As we look back into the life of the deceased,we see that it was full of generosity and sacrifice. He dedicated himself to combating marginalization and poverty and defending human dignity”,said the royal message.
The late Pope condemned the circumstances relating to the scourge of illegal migration and called tirelessly for the consolidation of peace,dialogue,tolerance and coexistence among the revealed religions,said the Commander of the Faithful.
He recalled the historic visit paid by the late Pope to Morocco in March 2019,a visit which strengthened relations between Morocco and the Holy See.
The visit was crowned with the signing by the late Pope and Moroccan King,of the ‘Jerusalem Declaration’,which calls for guaranteeing the right of the followers of the three monotheistic religions to freely enter the Holy City and perform their religious rituals.
