Morocco & Spain discuss joint efforts to counter threats in Sahel & Sahara

Moroccan-Spanish joint efforts to counter regional terrorist threats in the Sahel and Sahara region were at the center of talks held Wednesday in Rabat between Abdellatif Hammouchi,Director-General of national police & homeland intelligence agency,and Maj. General Luis Peláez Piñeiro,Intelligence Chief of Guardia Civil,one of Spain’s law enforcement agencies.

General Luis Peláez Piñeiro,the new head of intelligence for the Spanish Civil Guard,has chosen Rabat for his first official visit abroad,sending a strong message that Morocco is a strategic security partner for Spain.

The meeting,attended by a high-level Spanish security delegation,sends a strong message: security cooperation between the two kingdoms is not only enduring but now serves as a crucial lever in addressing cross-border threats,terrorism,and the challenges related to the co-organization of the 2030 World Cup.

Talks focused on ways of enhancing further bilateral cooperation ties,successful joint security operations against regional & international threats,as well as security coordination ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2030,which will be co-organized by Morocco,Spain,and Portugal.

Moroccan-Spanish security cooperation has proven its efficiency in addressing terrorism & extremism threats and curbing irregular migration.
