Moroccan scientist Rachid Yazami, renowned for inventing the graphite anode used in lithium-ion batteries, has received lately a U.S. patent for his battery safety innovation.
This patent focuses on a method for early detection of internal short circuits in batteries, particularly lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles (EVs),to prevent thermal runaway, fires, and explosions.
The technology enables real-time monitoring and enhances battery safety by identifying potential issues before they escalate, potentially saving lives and reducing accidents caused by battery failures.
Yazami’s work builds on his extensive contributions to battery technology, with over 200 patents and 250 scientific publications. His recent patents, including those in China and Japan for fast-charging methods, also emphasize safety and efficiency in EV batteries.
This U.S. patent underscores his ongoing efforts to address critical safety concerns in the growing electric vehicle and renewable energy sectors.
