Morocco’s Fouzi Lekjaa was re-elected to the FIFA council as Africa representative,underscoring the status of Moroccan football in the continent.
Lekjaa beat his rival Hani Abou Rida with 49 votes to 35,in a vote held during the 14th African Football Federation (CAF) assembly.
Lekjaa is also head of the 2030 World Cup organizing committee and serves as minister delegate in charge of the budget.
During the same assembly,CAF’s current president Patrice Motssepe was re-elected as head of the continent’s football governing body.
Morocco is preparing its stadiums and hospitality infrastructure to host the African Cup of Nations in December 2025,as it also prepares to co-host the World Cup,together with Spain and Portugal.
